Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having problems with the tractor. I will try to help you with replacing the belt. first park the tractor on a hard level surface and set the parking brake. The easiest way I have found to replace the drive belt is to remove the mower deck from the tractor. This will allow you to see the way the belt is routed and give you room to work. Before removing the belt, make note of how the belt is routed. Then walk the belt off the back pulley first. Then remove it from the rest of the pulleys. Then reinstall the belt in the reverse order. Make sure the belt is position in the pulleys and on over the keepers. Once the belt is in position, I recommend testing the operation before installing the mower deck.

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

what they forget to tell you is, on some models, there is a lever on the back which has something to do with pushing the mower and another position for mowing/riding. make sure after u put the belt on that the lever is in mowing/riding position. i also noted that the clutch on mine does not come back all the way...but still works fine. i tested the mower before i put the deck on and so far(day 1) it has been going all day around the yard and no complications.(belt rubbing, etc).

Rosemary, Thank you for the tip on the transport engagement rod. You are correct, if the lever is in the transport/push mode the mower will not drive. I am sure other users will find this helpful. Thank you for using Manage my life. Mark

Q:

sparkplug 502254982 Craftsman 12 h.p. tractor

A:

Thank you for being Sears’ valued member and for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your question about the spark plug for your Craftsman tractor model 502254982. I will be happy to help you with this.

The spark plug is listed under the parts of the engine, which has its own model number. Your tractor has a Briggs and Stratton engine model 281707-0428-01. I have located the spark plug for that engine and have included the link below for you to order the part. The spark plug should come pre-gapped, but you should check it before installation. The gap should be set to 0.030 in (0.76 mm).
