This is my question that I asked. The manual does not help because the brush shaft that I received does not have the same rectangular slot for the pawl to go into, like the original. The new shaft only has round holes that will not accept the pawl. It seems to be a manufacturing defect.

Thank you for your response and for verifying that the part received  does not look the same as the original part. This part has not been substituted by the manufacturer. This means the part received should look and fit the same as the original. It sounds like either the part is defective or the warehouse has shipped the wrong part. Please contact our PartsDirect Customer Care department at 1-800-366-7278 for assistance with getting the part returned and assistance with getting the correct part shipped.

Q:

How to re-assemble the brush shaft of a lawn/leaf sweeper (m/n 486241321)

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the sweeper. I know they can be a little tricky to reassemble. The best images we have of this model is out of the manual in the maintenance section. I posted that information in the image below. Click on the image to enlarge it. You will see how the gear and wheels fit onto the sweeper. I looked at the parts image and it looks like each side of the brush shaft has a bushing. The parts image does not show both but each side has the same parts. The bushings fit from the inside and are held in place by the pin in the brush shaft. I hope I answered your question. If you need further assistance, please let me know. If you have a way to post images of what you are having problems with, it would be helpful.
