Question and Answers

Q:

using a top element in the bottom element 449320511 Kenmore Kenmore survivor electric water heater

A:

Thank you for your inquiry on your Kenmore Water Heater, Model: 449.320511. From reviewing the details on your model, I would not recommend you using a top element for the bottom element. They have different components that the elements contribute to the water heater.

Safety Warning: Before beginning the repair, disconnect the direct power supply to the water heater to prevent the risk of injury or any electrical shock.

If you don’t feel comfortable or confident in this repair, then you can have it repaired at home by a sears technician. I have the included a link to the website: Sears Home Services or call 1-800-469-4663.

I hope this answered your question. Thank you for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com, and have yourself a wonderful day.

Q:

Hot Water unit needs to be replaced 449320511 Kenmore Kenmore survivor electric water heater

A:

Thank you for being Sears’ valued member and for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your question about your Kenmore Survivor water heater model 449320511. I am so sorry the housing around the heating element has come apart. I will be happy to help you with this.

If the housing has “blown” apart, it is important to disconnect the water heater and shut off the water for safety reasons. Please contact a technician or plumber right away to have the water heater serviced or you may want to replace it.

If you mean there is a gap between the housing and the element then it may be the element gasket has disintegrated, which can happen over time. I have included the link below to order the gasket, in case that is what you need.

Safety Warning: Be sure to disconnect the power supply and shut off the water before beginning your repair. Remember, water in the tank may retain high temperatures for several hours so be careful to prevent being scalded.

If by the housing, you mean the water tank is damaged, you may have some entitlements under the limited warranty on the tank. To qualify for this you must be the original purchaser of the water heater. I have included the link below for you to view the owner’s manual online.

The warranty information is on page 16. If you are the original owner of the water heater, please contact our service department at www.SearsHomeServices.com or by calling 1-800-469-4663 (1-800-4MY-HOME).

In case you do not qualify for the warranty, I have included the link below for you to view the water heaters we currently have available.

I hope this answers your question. Thank you for choosing Sears, we appreciate your business.
