Q:

tv wont turn on 42MF337B Magnavox Lcd television

A:

Thank you for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your question about your Magnavox LCD television. I am so sorry to hear it doesn’t turn on. I know how much my family missed our TV when it went out so I can image you want this issue resolved quickly. I will be happy to help you with this.

Before you take the TV apart and start replacing components in it, I recommend you complete a couple of basic checks. First try unplugging the TV for at least 60 seconds. If the TV shut itself off in a protective mode, it could be that the TV has overheated and needs to be reset. Before plugging the TV back in, I recommend making sure the vents are not blocked and have good air flow.

If you are using a remote control to turn on the TV check and see if it needs new batteries. Try using the controls on the TV. It may just be the remote that needs to be replaced. If it is the remote, I need to let you know the original is no longer available. You would need to replace it with a universal remote.

Next test the outlet that the TV is plugged into. An easy way to do that is to unplug the TV and plug in a lamp or blower dryer to the outlet. If they don’t work either, then you may have a blown fuse and need to check the circuit breaker to the house.

Next, check the surge protector. If the outlet is fine and the TV is plugged into a surge protector, try plugging the TV directly into the outlet. If the TV works, then the surge protector needs to be replaced. (I do not recommend leaving the TV plugged directly into the outlet. This is just a means to test the surge protector.)

Check to see if the TV is in another function. Try pressing the “input” button on the remote control. If the TV switches functions, then it was set to a source with a blank screen. Once you have completed these checks, then you will need to decide if you want to repair this model, or get a new TV. I mention this because several of the parts on this model are no longer available. Besides the remote control, the transformer, LCD Display and several of the printed circuit board (PCB) assemblies are no longer made.

If you are not comfortable completing this repair yourself, you can have a Sears' technician complete the repair for you. To set up service please go to www.SearsHomeServices.com or call 1-800-469-4663.

I hope this answers your questions. If I can be of further assistance please respond to this thread. Thank you for choosing Sears, we appreciate your business.

Q:

I have a 42" magnavox lcd tv 42mf337b/37 with a 3" black bar horizontly at bottom of screen. Ideas?

A:

With a bar or line on a LCD display typically would be the LCD panel it self. LCD’s do not have buffer boards like plasma panels do. It is possible, but not likely that it could be a LCD control board, the board which sends all the information to the LCD panel. However, Magnavox does not offer the part separate from the LCD panel and would come attached to a new panel. If the bar is always there with different inputs and trying different aspects I would have to say it would be a bad LCD panel. The part number for the LCD display is 932224909682 and would cost $1228.92 plus tax and shipping.
