The flicking is the CCFL backlights. The flickering can be caused by the CCFL tubes themselves of the inverter board that turns the tubes on. Both parts art part of the LCD assembly. The LCD assembly was not made available from the manufacture as a replaceable part.

The TV cannot be easily repaired. A technical might be able to disassemble the LCD panel assembly and repair it, but the repair cost would exceed the replacement cost.

Yes the problem is the main filter Capacitor on the power supply board. I am a service technician at Aarons and see this problem alot on this make and model. If you're a tv technician with an electronic backround its a simple job that will only cost around $6.00 to $8.00 for the Capacitor.

I know how important it is to have a good working TV in the home to keep up with the news. I suggest you add to the thread of this question and include the full model number of your TV so that the expert can provide you with a more detailed answer. The TV can be difficult to troubleshoot and for this reason I am adding link below in where you can set service to have your TV serviced by a certified technician. Hello Morgan,

I'm sorry to hear that your TV is changing channels by itself and I would like to assist you. It is very likely that one of the buttons on the control board has been pushed too hard or has simply stuck in the down position. It most likely will need to be replaced and the television is not user serviceable. I recommend following this link: Sears Home Services and arranging a repair appointment with a Sears technician. You may also call 800-469-4663 to arrange the service call. You may want to look at the button carefully, they sometimes get stuck down behind the opening on the plastic case and can be gently moved over to the correct position, without disassembling the TV.

Please let me know if you would like any further assistance.

Jerry, Thank you for your response. I don't have the money to afford a service tech to make a house call. I'm gonna have to do this myself or get a friend to help. All of the buttons on the front are in their proper possition and not stuck. On the HLP-45A01 board inside, one round green thing (I don't know the proper name), that is next to the power connection plug is discolored at the board. It's brownish and some solder looks like it is missing from the pin. The underside is also discolored and missing some solder.

Hello Morgan,

Note: Working on a TV can be difficult due to the high voltage circuits inside. Always remember to unplug any TV before trying to work on it.

The board that you are referring to is the Power Supply and I have attached a link to it at the end of this reply. In my experience, the issue is usually caused by the panel starting to short out and pulling too much current. Replacement of the power supply will get things up and running possibly, but there is a very high probability that it will fail again in the near future. It may immediately destroy the new power supply at attempted start-up too.
