Question and Answers

Q:

Why does my Kenmore stack heats up at the start but will not relight?

A:

From the description you give most likely the gas coils or gas valve has failed.

You see the igniter glowing and you hear a click when it goes off but there is no flame. If the igniter is glowing then the thermostats and flame senor are okay.

When the igniter is glowing brightly and you hear a click the voltage that was powering the igniter is directed to the gas coils and the coils should open the valve and you would see the flame.

When the igniter clicks off you should listen for a faint buzz or hum from the coils. If the coils seem to vibrate or hum and there is no flame then most likely the valve is bad. If the coils make no sound at all then most likely the coils are bad.

The coils together 5303931775 cost approximately $32 dollars but the valve 5303207409 cost approximately $173 dollars.

I hope this information helps to resolve this problem but submit another question with any additional details for further assistance.
