Question and Answers

Q:

Why is my Kenmore dryer not drying the clothes completely?

A:

It sounds like the gas valve is defective. When the contacts on the flame sensor are closed the igniter should have 120 volts until the flame sensor opens, then the gas valve coils should have 120 volts to allow the burner to light. The thermostat heater does not provide voltage to the igniter. The thermostat heater just heats up the body of the cycling thermostat to trick it into cycling for lower drying temperatures. If the igniter comes on & goes off we know that the sensor is good & is providing voltage to the gas valve coils. I recommend replacing the gas valve if these checks pass testing.
