If a gas dryer has a smell of gas then I suggest you have a technician check this right away. You can check the hose connections with a little soap and water. The valve may be allowing a small amount of gas to leak past. The noise in the spin cycle is usually caused by a bad bearing. The bearing can be replaced but the transmission must be removed. It is not usually considered a do-it-yourself project. If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician.
