Q:

Kenmore washer/dryer combo 417.97822700

A:

Thank you for your inquiry on your Kenmore Laundry Center, Model: 417.97822700. From reviewing the details on your model, if the dryer is running then the thermal limiter (fuse) is okay. The problem might be the timer, control thermostat, hi-limit thermostat, element or even the motor switch. The thermostats can be checked for continuity if a meter is available or they can be bypassed with a small piece of insulated wire is one is available. Remember to unplug the unit before trying to access any parts. You might not have to take completely apart. You can start with the top and access the hi-limit thermostat. You will also see the thermal limiter but it should be okay. The control thermostat is behind the transition panel between the washer and dryer. The timer and motor switch would require a meter to check.

Safety Warning: Before beginning the repair, disconnect the direct power supply to the laundry center to prevent the risk of injury or any electrical shock.

Q:

laundry center needs HELP!! 41797822700 Kenmore Laundry center

A:

Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com and being a valued member. It is unfortunate to hear that you are having issues with your laundry center and I do understand your frustration. Glad to help out. I'm looking at your model number 41797822700 and the dryer uses a support shaft that may need to be replaced. The best thing for you to do is disassemble the unit so that you are able to verify what has failed. If the washer is leaking you may want to disassemble to determine where the water is leaking from. The washer has the pump hose that may be leaking; the basket gasket as well can be causing the leak. Here is a link that may help with you with disassembly. If you are unsure on how to take care of the repair I do not recommend that you attempt. Just click the blue link above to be taken to the page. I trust this information will help you.

Thank you for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com.

You may still have a restriction in the drain path. I recommend that you check the hose between the tub and the pump for a restriction. Unplug the laundry center before accessing internal components. Also check the drain hose between the pump and the drain stand pipe or sink. Make sure that the drain for the washer is clear. If the drain path is clear and the pump is running, then the washer should drain properly. If not, then you may still have a problem with that pump even though it was just replaced.

If the drain pump is not running, then you could have a problem with the wiring or the timer. The image below shows a wiring diagram and timer chart for the washer. The segments where the drain pump should run are marked in red. The wiring connections on the drain pump are marked in wire colors. Unplug the washer and check those wiring connections if the drain pump is not running. If the wiring connections are okay, then you may need to replace that timer.

You can order parts from this page: Kenmore Laundry Center Model 417.97822700 Parts . Be sure that you unplug the laundry center before accessing and replacing internal components.

I hope that this information helps. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details.

A:

Hello Jimmy720. The socks that are getting down into the drain pump are almost certainly working their way over the top of the spin basket. The first image below shows the gap between the spin basket and the outer tub marked with a red arrow. The photograph below that one shows the gap between the splash tub cover and the top of the spin basket that the socks would have to move through to enter that outer tub. Make sure that you are not overloading the washer. Don't allow garments (especially socks) to be pushed into that area when loading the washer. This can help you avoid the problems that you are describing. If you suspect that you have other socks or garments that have already worked their way into that outer tub and have not been removed, then you can use the information in the second image to remove the splash tub cover and the spin basket if necessary. There is a hole in the bottom of that outer tub that drains down into the drain pump through the connecting hose. Clearing that outer tub and keeping it clear of socks and other garments will fix this problem. I hope that this information helps. If you need more assistance, let us know.

Q:

install belt on washer

A:

Hi Jessie,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

You did not mention which belt you are replacing. This laundry center has one belt for the washer and one for the dryer. I am including images below that will demonstrate the removal of both. Always unplug or de-energize electrical equipment before removing covers or attempting service. Be careful and wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts. The laundry center in these images may not look exactly like yours but the procedure is basically the same.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website; Sears Home Services .

Here is a link that you may use to view the parts list diagram or purchase any parts needed for your appliance; Sears Parts Direct .

I hope this is helpful, and if I may be of further assistance please include more details in a reply to this post.

Hi David,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

I am sorry you are having problems with your laundry center.

You did not mention if you see any differences in the parts. I looked at pictures of the 2 parts on parts websites and they appear identical. I am not aware of any issues with this part or its substitution. The ball hitch screw holes are not threaded. The screws are self tapping so it will be difficult to get them into a new bearing. You may want to start with new screws.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
