Question and Answers

Q:

Gas dryer

A:

Thank you for your question.   This particular Kenmore Gas Dryer does not have a thermal fuse.  If the ignitor is not glowing then the problem might be the high limit/safety thermostat located on top of the housing beneath the top panel.  See the image below.  You will need a putty knife to release the two clips holding the top panel down.   The control thermostat located on the blower housing might also be the cause of the ignitor not glowing.  The high limit and control thermostats can both be checked for continuity if a meter is available.   There is also a trick to check these two parts if no meter is available if you feel comfortable with do-it-yourself.  Let me knot if you would like to know this trick.  The images below may be helpful to you.  Remember to unplug the dryer first.  I hope this helps.

I know how disappointing it is when your dryer doesn't operate as it should. I researched your question and was able to find a couple links that will explain the issue with the ignitor shutting off after one minute. I attached the links below. I hope this helps.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

Based on your symptom the two solenoids on the gas valve assembly are weak and both solenoids need to be replaced. Also, make sure there are no restrictions or blockages in the vent hose and the outside vent cap.

The solenoid coils for the Kenmore gas dryer model 417.93142201 can be ordered from Sears Parts Direct.

I added a YouTube video showing the procedure of accessing and replacing the solenoid coils . Note: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before servicing._

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.
