Q:

Will #02640412 washer stack with older #026 83142 dryer?

A:

Stacking your washer and dryer is very convenient! It also provides more space in your laundry room. While your waiting for an expert to respond I see that your model does offer a stacking kit. If you wish to purchase this item before or after you receive your expert response I attached the link below to the website. I hope this helps!

A:

That washer should work under that model of dryer. I compared that 417.40412 washer with the version that was originally paired with the dryer (417.43142200). I see no differences in parts. The design of that frame has not changed in many years.

There is no reset switch on your dryer. The model number you provided is not a valid model number. I'm going to assume the model is 417.83142200 and will provide information for model 417.83142200.

To begin with I must make you aware the dryer must have a 220-230 voltage supply. The voltage supply should be checked and verified before continuing to diagnose the failure. If one of the two dedicated circuit breakers has tripped the dryer will run but it will not heat. The heating element must have 220-230 volts (L1 and L2) supplied to it or the heating element will not work. I recommend locating both house circuit breakers dedicated for the dryer and reset both breakers by flipping them both off and back on 2-3 times and then recheck the dryer for heat. If the voltage supply has been checked and confirmed using a voltage meter then the failure could be one of the following:

  • Timer
  • Burnt wiring connection
  • Control thermostat (mounted on front of blower housing)
  • High limit thermostat (mounted on the upper side of the heating element housing)
  • Heating element
I added an image below of the wiring diagram with the heater circuit traced in red and black. NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before servicing your dryer. I also added an image with instructions on how to access and replace the heating element. NOTE: I do not recommend checking voltages unless you have experience and feel safe and confident in doing so, otherwise I recommend calling a service technician.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
