Question and Answers

Q:

clothes get stuck in dryer

A:

Replacing the drum glides/seal is a project I can help you with but I will need a model number to assist you with this.

With a model number, or at least the brand, I can most likely provide you with images and instructions to access and change the glides/seals.

Please submit another question with a model number for further assistance.

I have a 9 year old Kenmore dryer (model # 417.81142000). Our clothes have been wedging up between the dryer drum and frame in the top front, leaving a brown mark on the clothing and sometimes making a hole in it. On-line discussions seem to point to replacing the drum glide, but this model has that and a lower sealed basket part, and I'm not sure if I need both parts to fix this problem, and the easiest way to do it. I know how to access the drum from the top of the dryer. Appreciate any help.

My model no. is 417.81142000. Machine brand is Kenmore. I am experiencing the same problem with the clothing becoming snagged and torn, or having brown marks on them. Please advise on the best way to remedy this situation. Is it a simple process to replace the glide/seal? And if so, exactly how do I do this? Thanks.

Q:

Are all 417. series stackable washers & dryers compatible? 41742142100 Kenmore Washer

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com and for contacting us with your questions about finding a compatible dryer to stack with your washer. I am so sorry the dryer needs to be replaced. I will be happy to help you with this.

The 417 at the beginning of a model number does not indicate a series. It is a manufacturer identification code. In this case it means that the washers and dryers that start with 417 were made for Sears by Frigidaire. The last number of the model number indicates engineering changes that have been made to the model from one production to the next. All 417 models are not compatible. The best way to determine if a dryer will stack with the washer you have is to look at the stacking kit listed for the dryer.

Your current dryer uses a stacking kit that is part number 5303937141. The other dryer you have access to, model 417.81142000 uses the same stacking kit. That means dryer 417.81142000 can be stacked with your washer. Because washers and dryers are normally sold as sets, there is not a reference chart that lists all the dryers that work with your model washer. Any 417 or Frigidaire dryers you find that use the same stacking kit will work with your washer.

I hope this answers your question. Thank you for choosing Sears, we appreciate your business.

Thank you for the information; I made a mistake when I listed the washer and dryers model numbers (am consolidating appliances between three houses). The washer model number is: 417.44102300 The dryer model number is: 417.82042101 Questions are: 1. Are these two compatible? 2. If they are, what is the stacking kit part number I would need to use?

Q:

Hot Enough, Not drying 41781142000 Kenmore Dryer

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I am sorry to hear that the dryer is taking so long to properly dry the load. I know how frustrating that is to have happen.

I know that you mentioned you’ve checked the lint trap and hose for any restrictions, but there could be excess lint within the lint duct causing this issue as well. A restriction or clog in the exhaust vent duct system and to the outside of your home is more than likely causing this problem. I recommend that you check the flexible vent hose behind the dryer for a kink or clog. The lint duct from the filter housing to the rear exhaust hose should be cleaned. To do this, you can shoot compressed air from an air compressor through the lint housing to push any excess lint to the rear. You can also use a vacuum attachment to reach into the rear exhaust to suck any excess lint.

Check the vent duct system to the outside of your home for clogs or restrictions. Make sure that the damper on the vent exit that is on the outside of your home opens properly. Make sure that you clean the lint screen before starting each load. Wash the lint screen thoroughly with water and soft bristle brush to clean any fabric softener residue that may have accumulated on the screen. Let the lint screen dry thoroughly and then replace it in the housing.

If the dryer vent is clear and the dryer duct venting to your home is clear, then the issue may be with the thermostats for your unit.

If you would feel more confident have a Sears Home Service technician help assist with the diagnosis/repair, you can call 1-800-469-4663, or click here to be directed to the page to set up service.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.
