Hi Anita,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life. I know how frustrating it can be when appliances do not function properly.

If you have already replaced the glides here is what I recommend; take the top off the dryer and hand turn the drum. Always unplug or de-energize electrical equipment before removing covers or attempting service. Be careful and wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts. If the squeak is coming from the rear part of the drum, you will need to replace the REAR BEARING KIT (part number 5303281153). I am including the disassembly instructions in the images below.

If the squeaking is coming from beneath the drum check the motor and the blower wheel.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Here is a link that you may use to view the parts list diagram and for parts purchases; Sears Parts Direct .

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Thanks again for using Manage My Life.

Hi Landell, Another question. . . if the paint is rubbed off the drum is there anyway to repair that. I've been told that the lack of paint will kill the dryer. Anita

Anita, The drum on this model appears to be stainless steel and should not be painted. The drum being the part of the dryer that holds the clothes. If this is not what you are talking about, please send me a picture of the part and I will be happy to assist you in any way I can. Landell

Yes it is stainless steel but it is painted on the inside of the drum rim where the guides and felt rub. (Note: the instructions that came with the guides stated "paint must be intact".)

Anita, I do not have a set of the instructions you are referring to. I am not aware of any paint for the inside rim of the drum. If the paint is worn off the rim of the drum, you may need to replace the drum. I am still not clear on what you are talking about exactly. As I stated before if you could send a picture it would most likely help me to understand what you are dealing with. I included a video link below that demonstrates replacing the felt/guides. My dryer, 417.91042000, is also a stainless drum that is painted on the inside. I replaced the uper and lower felt and read somewhere that the paint had to be intact. When the guides and felt wear out they have by then removed the paint from the edge of the rim where the drum will ride on the guides. If the drum is otherwise in good shape why should it be replaced. Will not the replaced guides just scrape away the paint on a new drum?

Hi,

Thanks for contacting ManageMyLife. I understand how frustrating it is having trouble with your appliance not working.

You say the dryer is getting too hot, is this on the outside of the cabinet top towards the rear.  Is the hot you are talking about causing damage to your clothes?   I am seeking to help determine the cause of the high heat.

Is the vent clear and unobstructed?  The lint screen need to be clean, if held under a running water faucet the water will run right through the screen is it is clean.

The interior temperature of the drum is controlled by a control thermostat operating between 120 degrees and 145 degrees.

Sometimes the top of the dryer will get hot because of air flow or restrictions to the airflow.

If all to the checks to the airflow are Ok you may want a Sears Home Services technician out to check your dryer for you.

Please feel free to let me know if you need further assistance. We are always here to help.

Thank you for using ManageMyLife.com.

The top back and top the drier, gets too hot to touch. The vent and exhaust is clear. I have not measured the temperature with the drier running and vented so I do not know that temperature. I was not comfortable with the discoloration from the heat on the back top portion of the drier to continue to run it. As mentioned only the heat limiter has been replaced. Is there a thermostat that also controls the temperature located at the back near the top of the tub?

Hi, Thanks for contacting ManageMyLife. I understand how frustrating it is having trouble with your appliance not working. The model of fryer you have is installed with the halo heater at the rear of the drum. This heater has heat within inches of the top panel and venting is critical. The top panel will get hot and there is a kit that can be installed to help solve the problem of heat on the panel. See the picture. NOTE: Always unplug or de-energize electrical equipment before removing covers or attempting service. Be careful and wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts. Please feel free to let me know if you need further assistance. We are always here to help. Thank you for using ManageMyLife.com. Bill

Install the kit. To check the temperature you could remove the vent tube at rear of the dryer and use a thermo couple and meter to check the exhaust temperatures. Usually only HA technicians have this thermocouple that fits to the multimeter. Here is a picture of a amp clamp and it is able to read temperature when attached to the thermocouple.
