Question and Answers

Q:

Spin cycle is not failing 41748112701 Kenmore Washer

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I can certainly understand how frustrating it can be when your washer is not working properly. First we will need to know where the buzzing is coming from.

Is it coming from the timer?
The belt?
Or the motor itself?

If the belt is loose or worn it could cause your unit not to work or spin properly.

If the timer is broken then is could also cause your unit not to complete its cycle.

I recommend checking the belt to see if it is worn or loose and needs replacement. If that is not the issue than I recommend a service technician taking a further look into the unit.

I ran the diagnostics and passed all 9 tests. It spun up to full speed, of course empty. After running the tests, I realized the buzzing is the pump draining. In a normal cycle with clothes, it will drain and then do nothing. It doesn't even attempt to turn and try to balance the load. I have tried doing smaller loads with no success. If the belt was slipping, their should be the sound of the motor at a minimum. To answer your question, how would i know if it is the timer? thanks

. Unplug the timer’s wiring harness, then, with the timer set to any position other than off, check for continuity through the motor contacts. Continuity will be indicated by a “0.000” on the meter’s display. A pictorial diagram on the back of the machine will tell you which numbers on the timer socket corresponds to which set of contacts in the timer. Likewise, a functional timer motor will display a resistance reading greater than 0.000, but less than 5 ohms. Open contacts or a defective motor winding will be indicated by an “O.L.” on the meter’s display.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The first thing to confirm is if all the water is draining out of the tub before it spins. The drain pump must drain all the water out first or it will not spin. I recommend disconnecting the power cord from the power source and then remove the front lower access panel. To remove the front lower access panel, remove the two screws from the bottom of the front lower access panel. Located behind the lower access panel is the drain pump and above the drain pump is the coin trap. Inside the coin trap is a drain pump filter. I suspect the drain pump filter is clogged and needs to be removed and cleaned. You will need to remove the large clamp securing the coin trap to the bottom of the tub. Be sure the tub is empty of water before removing the clamp and coin trap. Remove the filter and clean it and then reinstall the coin trap and clamp and check the operation. If the drain pump is removing all the water and the washer will not complete the spin cycle, I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your washer.

Back to same problem again. Washer full of soapy wet clothes. No matter what is done, machine after a few seconds, locks door and drain mode for 1 minute or so. Does same thing in any diagnostic mode: non-digital; program knob to Drain/spin press PAUSE CANCEL to turn off LEDs press and hold OPTION and PAUSE CANCEL till LEDs flash cycle through program options for different tests 9 clicks it flashes error codes. all repeat same scenario: lock and drain. it flashes all right LEDs except WASHING twice then flashes START LED twice almost constantly. i don't have code explanations Removed rubber drain boot and pulled out 2 coins, cleaned boot innards; no changed to above. (that worked last time) pulled wet clothes out, but didn't change anything either. poured water in drum for something to drain, but didn't change anything. it seems stuck on drain mode.

Issue has not changed. Unplugged for a week, plugged in and was able to do one load. Tried to start next load and it only goes into drain mode for 2 minutes and repeats with any buttons/dials operated. Unplugged for a week, plugged in and it sent into drain mode. Besides help on above, where do i find fault codes?

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com and being a valued member.  I can certainly understand how frustrating it can be when your washer is not working properly.

Diagnostic Test:

The diagnostic test is performed by using the Program Knob. To START THE TEST:
• On non-digital display models, turn the Program Knob to start position, Drain/Spin.
• On digital display models, turn the Program Knob to start position, Touch Up. (NOTE: If the model has a timer dial that can be rotated 360°, turn the Program Knob to start position, Drain/Spin.
• Press Pause Cancel to turn off LEDs.
• Within 5 seconds, press and hold the Option and Pause Cancel buttons until LEDs start sequentially chasing, then
release buttons.
1. All the LEDs will sequentially light. Pressing a button below a light cluster will light all the LEDs in that cluster at one time to confirm functionality.
2. Turn the program knob (1) click clockwise from the start position. The hot water solenoid will activate and hot water should enter through the detergent compartment.
3. Turn the program knob (2) clicks from the start position. The bleach water solenoid will activate and cold water should enter through the bleach compartment.
4. Turn the program knob (3) clicks from the start position. The bleach and the wash water solenoids will activate and cold water should enter through the softener compartment.
5. Turn the program knob (4) clicks from the start position. The door lock solenoid will activate.
6. Turn the program knob (5) clicks from the start position. The door lock solenoid will deactivate and the loading door can be opened.
7. Turn the program knob (6) clicks from the start position. The washer will fill and tumble.
8. Turn the program knob (7) clicks from the start position. The washer will fill and spin (leakage test).
9. Turn the program knob (8) clicks from the start position. The drain pump and door lock solenoid will activate and the washer will operate in high spin. SAFETY WARNING: If power is removed during this test, the door can be opened. To prevent injury, DO NOT put your hands inside when the tub is rotating.
10. Turn the program knob (9) clicks from the start position. The control will signal the last error code.

It sounds to me like you may need to replace the control board since there is no timer on this unit. The timer is built into the control board. I recommend going through the diagnostics to see if an error code comes up to determine the issue.
