I am sorry to hear you are having trouble with the self propel on your lawn mower. It sounds like you will need to replace some parts to repair the mower.

If the drive cable is broken, you should replace the drive control that includes a new cable. The part number of the drive control is 407816, and the price is $20.99.

There is a kit to repair the front drive that your lawnmower should have. The part number is 422109, and the price is $40.49. This kit includes the pinion gears that turn the wheels and the parts that drive the pinion gears.

You should look closely at the belt for wear. It is possible the belt will need to be replaced also. The part number of the belt is 196857, and the price is $12.70.

These repairs would make the mower work as it should. I assume you remove the wheels 1-2 times each year and clean the inside of the wheels and the drive mechanism.

I recommend you call the Sears Retail Store and talk to the manager of the lawn and garden department. He or she might be able to do something for you on the repair of the mower.

If you want to repair the mower yourself, remove the front wheels and clean any debris from the drive mechanism. Look at the teeth inside the wheel and on the gear that drives the wheels.

With the belt cover off and the front wheels removed, prop the front of the mower up and start the engine. Engage the drive lever and see if the belt is turning the pulley on the gearbox. Look at the axles coming from the gearbox and see if they are turning.

If you have questions, reply on this thread and I will be glad to help.

Q:

Need a mower part identified, please. cracked arm actuator?

A:

The picture really shows the crack. The first place I would check is the schematics at Sears Parts Direct. You can probably identify the part and parts number there while you wait for the expert. I also attached the owner's manual which has great diagrams and pictures. See links below. Hope this helps.

well... I could not identify the part from the schematic. (see pic) I've since found another source at http://www.hammerwall.com/Manuals/Craftsman/Description/917.287261/Craftsman%20Lawn%20Tractor%2024%20HP%20Mower%20Automatic/L0612235/ not the same model number - but close. I think its a #186 part#197799 Arm actuator the new school sees it as a 406563 Clutch.asm.c At $40.49 I hope it is the same part for my ride. can anyone verify this?

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the tractor. I have looked up the arm actuator, it is part number 406563, and cost is $40.49. I priced the whole assembly and it cost $44.09. The part number for the whole assembly is 199972. I recommend ordering the whole assembly for 4 dollars more. Once you decide which part you need you can order it from out parts website: Sears Parts Direct .

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you for using Manage my life.
