Question and Answers

Q:

No power on our Microwave 401.88529900 Kenmore Elite Microwave/hood combo

A:

I know what a time saver the microwave can be and how inconvenient it is when it isn't working.

I can appreciate wanting to diagnose and repair the microwave yourself, however I strongly recommend against it. We do not give repair information on microwave ovens because they are inherently dangerous to service. Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is completely unplugged. You need special equipment to work on a microwave starting with an anti-static wrist strap grounded to the microwave to even test components in it. Even minor door repairs and adjustments can cause microwave leakage, and a microwave shielding leakage test MUST be performed using a survey meter after any microwave service.

For these safety reasons I strongly recommend having this repair completed by a qualified service technician. You can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician by calling 1-800-469-4663. You can also click HERE to schedule an appointment online. Thank you for your understanding in this matter and I hope we can help you with any other questions and repairs in the future.

Hi Mark T, thanks for your advice. I understand your safety concerns. However, before I spend the money to have Sears come and check it out, could you tell me whether or not there is a fix for the "TE" error code? I've read through some of the past conversations and it is not clear whether or not there is a fix. What has been your experience regarding this issue? Thanks. RogerP

The TE error code is repairable. The repair requires the internal components to be accessed. When a repair involves the door or removing cabinet, we shy away from any assistance on them because of the dangers. We offer a flat rate repair, which covers the cost of the service charge and all labor. The cost for the flat rate is 129.00. The only other cost would be for parts. Once the repair is done, you can also purchase a repair agreement that will cover anything else that goes wrong with it.
