If the ice maker is not filling, it's usually due to a failed water valve or the ice maker itself. Depending on the model, it could also be a board problem. There are different ways to manually cycle ice makers, to help determine the problem. It's also possible the freezer temperature may not be getting cold enough to cycle the ice maker. If the temperature gets above 10 degrees, the ice maker will quit making ice. The best way to check the temperature is to place a thermometer between some packages. Air temperature is not a good check. For more specific information about your refrigerator, please resubmit your question, with a complete model number and any additional details.

To cycle this icemaker, pull the front cover off and you will see a large and small gear. Turn the small gear counterclockwise about a 1/4 turn and the icemaker should start into a cycle. I'm attaching a picture with instructions. Towards the end of the cycle, it will or should fill with water. If it does not fill but you can hear a humming sound, it indicates the valve is getting energized. In this case, the valve # WR57X10033 will need to be replaced. If it does fill with water, the icemaker # WR30X10093 will need to be replaced. These parts are available at the link listed below. I hope this will help you.

Thanks for the information Scott. I cycled the valve, the unit filled with water, so I will order the replacement ice maker. I have another question. The through door ice dispenser quit working. This model has cubed and crushed ice dispensing only (no water). When pushing on the dispensing paddle on the door there is no sound or movement of parts. Help!

First check the wire connection under the top hinge cover. Check for a loose or broken wire. If the connection is ok, I recommend reversing the wires on the water valve. The wires should be in pairs so, just reverse the wire sets on the solenoids. Be sure to disconnect power to the unit first. After the wires have been reversed, reconnect the power and activate the icemaker again. If water does not flow to the icemaker now, the water valve will need to be replaced. If water does flow, it could be a wiring or switch problem in the dispenser or a frozen water line. If you would like to have a technician check this, you can call 1-800-469-4663 to schedule a tech to come out. If you would like more assistance, any additional details will be helpful and I will be glad to assist you further.

Scott , There was a misunderstood bit of information in the previous question. We want some help with the ice dispenser not working. It stopped working about a year ago and we have lived without (no big deal) But now the ice maker stopped too. So we might as well fix them both now. We have a Kenmore that is well over 17 years old. When we bought it new, we opted to have Ice only dispensed through the door, crushed & cubes, It was never a water dispenser, never had water. So we are not asking to fix the water, we need some help with the "through the door" ice dispenser. I hope this makes sense. When pushing on the dispensing paddle there is no sound or movement of parts.

I'm sorry for the confusion. When pressing the actuator, if there is no clicking sound, it will indicate that either the switch has failed or the actuator is not making contact with the switch. This dispenser has a plunger assembly that has to make contact with the switch. If it breaks, the assembly would need to be replaced. Unfortunately, this assembly is no longer available. Only the spring # WR2X3951 in this assembly is available. Now if the plunger is ok and making contact with the switch but there is no clicking sound, the switch # WR02X7942 will need to be replaced. You can remove the recess cover inside the freezer door, to see the back section of the dispenser. I hope this helps you. This can be a difficult dispenser to service. If you would like more assistance, I will be glad to assist you further.
