I recommend replacing the following parts. From the parts diagram, items 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, 13, and 15. The nozzle and the venturi cause the pump to increase the pressure from 25-30 lbs to 50-60 lbs. These 2 parts are critical.

Q:

I installed a pressure switch number 2782 on my water pump model 390.252.158, but it still will not shut off. How do I proceed to repair?

A:

You did not mention what pressure the water pump is reaching. If the water pressure is going higher than 50 lbs. the pressure switch is miswired or defective.

If the water pressure only reaches 30-40 lbs., The nozzle or venturi inside the pump is probably stopped up or restricted.

The impeller in the pump will pump to around 30 lbs. The nozzle and venturi in the pump cause the pressure to reach 50-60 lbs.

If you go to [www.searspartsdirect.com], you can see a parts diagram of the inside of the pump. Order a new o-ring for the pump body and separate the 2 halves of the pump. Remove and clean the nozzle and venturi (items 12 and13). Clean the vanes of the impeller and any other debris inside the pump housing.

If you don't find any debris inside the pump housing, replace the nozzle and venturi.
