Q:

My water pressure starts out fine, then falls to a trickle after a few minutes 390251481 Craftsman Pump

A:

I posted an answer for question #428012-my water preessure starts out fine, then falls to a trickle after a few minutes39025148.
Answer:
Check inlet hose for kinks. Water supply to pump might be erratic. The most common cause is the spray wand on the nozzle might be restricted. If nozzle restricts the flow out of wand, the uploader valve in the pump will open and close rapidly. The uploader valve in pump might also need ckeaning or replacing.
It may also be that the pump itself could have internal problems with water leaking through the check valves and around the pistons.

Q:

pump doesnt shut off 390251481 Craftsman Pump

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the well. If the water level in the well has gone down far enough, that the pump could not pump water, the pump may not be the problem. Before running the pump any more, I recommend checking the water level in the well. If the foot valve/screen is not way below the water level, you will continue to have a problem with it running dry. If this is the case, you may need to drill a deeper well. I recommend having a well specialist come out and check it over for you. If you are sure the water level is fine, the problem is in the pump or the foot valve/screen. I recommend priming the pump again and check the operation. If it will not pump, turn the power off to the pump. Then disassemble the pump and inspect the impeller and other parts.  If they are worn it would cause the pump not to work. The parts for the pump can be ordered from the following link. Replacement parts for a Craftsman pump model 390251481.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you for your question.

I can understand wanting to know what is causing the noise in the water pump.

Since this is an older pump it could be a motor bearing going bad or it may need the impeller and slip ring and shaft seal replaced, if it has not been done before.

There is a water seal that could be weeping just enough to be washing the grease out of the from pump motor bearing.

If it is the motor you should be able to hear it when it slows to a stop when you shut it off.

You can take a large flat screwdriver and try it isolate on to which part of the motor you bearing are making noise. Hold your ear up to the screwdriver handle to use a stethoscope and move the screwdriver shaft to different location on the motor.

If the motor seems to be ok it could be some debris in the venturi nozzle.

With a pump that old it might be better to replace it.

Well Pump .

I have given you a part breakdown of the parts list that I was referring to. #s 5,6,7,8 and the nozzle was #13.

Thank you for using Manage My Life.
