Q:

Kenmore Microwave Model No. 72180839500

A:

Microwaves are one kitchen appliance that most of us do not attempt to repair. Mine has lots of labels saying high voltage and that is enough for me. If you are qualified for this type repair the expert will review and respond but if you do decide you would like an experienced technician to make the repairs I attached the Sears Home Services scheduler to the link below.

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry, but we do not give repair information on microwave ovens because they are inherently dangerous to service. Microwaves contain high voltage internal components that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is completely unplugged. Door repairs and adjustments, even minor ones, can cause microwave leakage, and a microwave shielding leakage test must be performed using a survey meter after any microwave service. That's why I strongly warn you to have this repair handled only by a qualified service technician. You can schedule service online with Sears Home Services or by calling 1-800-4-MY-HOME.

Normally at ManageMyLife.com we like to help you with all of your repairs, but our expert advice is that microwaves are just too dangerous.

Thank you for using Manage my life.

Thank you for your question.

I can understand wanting to repair you microwave yourself.

I must warn you however that Microwaves are inherently dangerous to service. They contain high voltage internal component that can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is completely unplugged. A microwave shielding leakage test must be performed on the unit using proper testing equipment following any internal component access or repair before the microwave can safely be returned to service. These are the reasons why I recommend that you have a service technician repair this microwave failure.

I believe that light relay on the control board is not turning the lights on.

You will need to have the complete control panel replaced. It is not a component lever repair.

The part number for the control board is;6871W1S387B and you can order it from;Sears Parts Direct .

Thank you for using Manage My Life.

As noted in the link for the previous answer provided above, the display control board (part 6871W1S387B) will likely need to be replaced to fix this type of problem. A wire harness failure or a main control board failure could also cause this problem. I recommend that you have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure. Microwaves are inherently dangerous to service yourself. Internal components can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is completely unplugged.
