Question and Answers

Q:

What spring do I need for reverse to work on a 38516520000 38516520000

Q:

Thread won't go completely around bobbin. Kenmore Sewing machine

A:

Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com and being a valued member. It is unfortunate to hear that you are having issues with your sewing machine and I do understand your frustration. Glad to help out. I'm looking at your model number 3851652000 and check the needle. If it is bent or dull, you will need to replace it. Clean the shuttle race and feed dogs as shown in your owner's manual. Make sure that the bobbin is inserted properly. Check the routing of the upper thread in the machine. Make sure that your thread tension is set correctly. These general tips may help you with this problem. If not, you could have a timing problem or a failure in the sewing machine that needs repair by a technician. You can visit the Sears Service website to get information on repair drop-off locations and service pricing. Here is a link for that website. The first thing I would suggest is to change out the needle for a new one. Please make sure you are using quality thread. Then make sure you have the upper thread on the machine threaded correctly. Make sure the upper thread tension is not too tight. One other thing to look for is the thread as it travels through the lower shuttle hook. Sometimes you can get a needle strike and puts a burr on the shuttle parts and as the thread passes through the shuttle it get caught on the burr and breaks. Open up the bobbin case area and check all shuttle part for burrs and it you find any, use a finger nail file to remove them. The last place to check for sharp edges is the hole in the needle plate. It can get needle strikes also and cause thread breakage. I trust this information will help you.

Q:

Stitches in forward are not right. Machine will NOT go in reverse. What should I look at? 38516520000 Kenmore Sewing machine

A:

The problem with the reverse function is probably caused by failed parts on the cam block assembly (Key 9 on this Cam Assembly page of the parts list diagram). That cam block assembly could also be preventing the stitches from working properly. Other problems could also cause the stitch problem but I would check that cam block first.

If you need more help, let us know.
