There is a chance that you may need that cover assembly part 3551A20109B. You may also need the main control power board that is part 6871A10141D. That power board controls the compressor and fans. I provided an image below that shows how to access components in the dehumidifier. You can order parts from this page: Kenmore Dehumidifier Model 580.54701 . . . Parts . There are several different models that begin with 580.54701 . . . Use the full model number of your dehumidifier to order parts. Be sure that the dehumidifier is unplugged when accessing internal components.

I hope that these tips help. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details.

Thanks for contacting ManageMyLife.com. I am sorry you are having a problem with your dehumidifier. You could have a bad humidity sensor or a problem with the control board that would cause this type of problem. The parts on this dehumidifier are not that expensive. If you are able to replace the sensor assembly (part 6877A30013R) and the PCB control board (part EBR36909302), you may be able to fix this problem yourself. You can try replacing the sensor first. If it still does not work, try replacing the PCB control board. See attached picture for disassembly.

Troy, I understand your frustration with this dehumidifier situation. It's difficult to say whether that would be covered outside of the warranty. It never hurts to check if that is possible. Also, keep in mind that this was manufactured by LG.

Ken, did you have any trouble with your display board after replacing the sensor? I changed the sensor and it dehumidifies fine with the ORIGINAL PWB/PCB board, although it will not run at all with either of the brand new replacement boards). My display shows 35% now, but the Power button and the humidity up buttons will not work. Don't mind springing to buy the display board, just would like an idea of why this thing is behaving so strangely. The first conclusion I have come to is that BOTH of the brand new replacement boards are defective right out of the box, and the second is that maybe whatever cooked the sensor assembly also affected the display board. Any thoughts?

Thanks for your question. The most likely answer for your particular situation would be the front cover also known as the escutcheon (part# 3831A20079D) is not making contact with the back control (part# 3551A20109B). Check to make sure the front cover is making contact with the control so it would work correctly. If this checks out okay then the control would need to be replaced. The link below will take you to the control on www.SearsPartsDirect.com assuming you have the same model number. If you have a different model number please visit that website with the full model number to locate the parts. Thanks for choosing ManageMyLife.com!

Q:

Is the main board the same as the electronic control panel on a model 580.54701 humidifier?

A:

I'm sorry you’re having such a difficult time getting the correct part. The answer to your question is no, the main control is not the same as the control panel. The image below may help to resolve this problem.

The top of the image is the control panel from the owner's manual that you referred to. The lower part of the image contains the parts breakdown for this model humidifier.

The main control is part number 6871A10141D and is part key number 4A in the image.

The escutcheon is part number 3831A20079D and is part key 19A in the image below. The escutcheon is mostly just a plastic touch pad which might crack but the working part of the display and panel is part key 18A.

The part you’re looking for is most likely part key 18A. They call this a 3551A20109B cover assembly which doesn't sound like an electronic part but it is most likely what you’re looking for.

Both the escutcheon and display board are part of the 3531A10254D front grill assembly part key 17A.

Parts can be frustrating because the terminology is not always the same. In this cause the control you're looking for is not named a control board but a cover assembly.

I hope this information helps to resolve this problem.

Submit another question with any additional details for further assistance.
