Question and Answers

Q:

What should I check on my refrigerator?

A:

If the freezer is still cooling good, the condenser should be ok. If the condenser was dirty enough (clogged) to cause a cooling problem, the freezer section would not be cooling. The whole unit would be warm. With the type spiny type fins on this evaporator, it's easy for the air flow to get restricted, which will cause poor cooling in the fridge section. To help improve air circulation, use a # 3 Phillips screwdriver and run it through the passages (rows) in the evaporator but be very careful, not to damage the tubing (see picture). This will open the air passages through the evaporator. Again, be very careful not to damage the tubing in the evaporator. To access the evaporator first disconnect power to the unit. Now everything in the freezer will have to be taken out, so the back panel can be removed. With the panel out you will have complete access to the evaporator. If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services . If you need more assistance, please resubmit your question, with additional details.

Safety Notice: Be sure to disconnect the appliance before performing any troubleshooting procedures.
