Q:

DE code on Screen 3639557852 Kenmore Refrigerator

A:

Thank you for your inquiry on your Kenmore Refrigerator, Model: 363.9557852. From reviewing the details on your model, the defrost system consists of three parts, a defrost timer, defrost heater and defrost thermostat. If you don't mind a little do-it-yourself then there is something you can check yourself. You can access the defrost timer by removing the light cover. Pull down and out on the cover to release it. Behind the cover is a metal control housing and the timer is mounted inside of this cover. There should be a small round hole where the timer knob for the timer will be visible. With a coin or straight edge screwdriver turn the knob clockwise until you hear it click and the refrigerator turns off. At this point the refrigerator is defrosting. Now you just wait and listen to the freezer section. If the defrost heater comes on you should hear some popping and sizzle noise as the heater melts the frost and it hits the heater. If you hear nothing then most likely the defrost heater or defrost thermostat is bad. After 20-30 minutes the refrigerator should come out of defrost and start running again. If it doesn't come out of defrost then most likely the timer is bad. You can turn the timer again manually and bring the refrigerator out of defrost. The timer is a part you could most likely replace as a do-it-yourself project but the heater and defrost thermostat I'd recommend a technician repair.

Safety Warning: Before beginning the repair, disconnect the direct power supply to the refrigerator to prevent the risk of injury or any electrical shock.

Thank you for submitting your question and I will be happy to assist you with your refrigerator disassembly. You're refrigerator is a Kenmore model manufactured by G.E.. To remove the handles:

  1. Remove the end caps on the top and bottom of the door I have marked them with red squares. Some of these pry of and some have screws. You will need to check the caps on your door.
  2. Remove the trim from the tracks I have marked them in blue boxes. They will either slide off or unclip from the track.
  3. Remove the two screws securing the handle to the door.
  4. Install the door in the reverse order.

For removing the doors, I was able to access a [video|]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwCHyaIVsq8 that should assist you. I hope this helps. Please reply back to this thread if you require further assistance. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Q:

Why is the food in the bottom half of my refrigerator freezing and how do I fix it? I have already tried lowering the temp but that makes the rest of the frige

A:

First you are going to want to check the humidly Controls on the crisper drawer. Make sure that the control is set based on the type and amount of food being stored.

Lower settings are for fruits with skin. Make sure that the less amount of fruit the lower the setting.

Higher settings are for vegetables and leafy greens.

Also check the meat drawer setting. This is optional so your model may not have a control for a meat drawer. If it does make sure it is on the normal setting. The coldest setting should only be used when a large amount of meats are being stored.

The vent that re-circulates the air through out the compartments keeps the lower section of the refrigerator colder. Them moving air can cause freezing. Since most people recognize that this is the coldest place of the refrigerator people tend to store bottled liquids in the crispers. If you are currently doing that I recommend moving the drink to the shelf above the crispers.

The condensation has no where to be absorbed on glass, plastic, or aluminum items. It is more likely you will have frost problems.
