Question and Answers

Q:

Cube ice dispenser

A:

Ice demand will be increasing during the summer and unless you are making slush drinks, cubed ice is normally called for. I did find a previous expert post for a slightly different model. I attached the answer below and also attached the link to your model and the schematics at Sears Parts Direct. This way you can check to see if there is a corresponding part. Hope this helps while you wait for the expert.

The answer Barbara H sent has the information you need to correct the problem.

I recommend you remove the ice bucket from the freezer and empty the cubes into a plastic bag. Put the bag of ice in the freezer and turn the ice bucket upside down. Sometimes ice will jam inside the ice crusher and prevent the door from moving. This door is moved when the solenoid lifts the arm up causing the ice cubes to go around the crusher. This might be the problem.

If you have more questions reply on this thread and I will be glad to help.

If you are not comfortable doing this repair, you can go to Home Services and get a Sears technician to repair the refrigerator.

Q:

Why does the ice maker only dispense crushed ice?

A:

Most of the time this is associated with the cube solenoid located in the housing next to the auger motor. There is a long arm mounted on the right side of the ice bucket assembly. The end of this arm fits into a slot in the back cover, this is where the cube solenoid is located. With the freezer door open press the light switch in and activate the lever for the ice dispenser also. The solenoid in the back should lift up on the arm which opens a gate in the crusher assembly. If this action is not taking place the problem could be a defective solenoid or board in the dispenser. To check which one is the problem remove the cover off the top freezer door hinge. There will be a wire harness connection under it. Disconnect the power from the refrigerator and with a well insulated jumper place it between the brown and purple wires in the connector. When you plug it back in if the solenoid is good you will hear a popping type noise which is the plunger of the solenoid lifting. If you hear this it will indicate the dispenser control WR55X129R is defective but if nothing happens the solenoid #WR62X58 will need to be replaced. These parts are available at www.searspartsdirect.com . If you need more assistance you can resubmit your question with more details.
