Question and Answers

Q:

How do I trouble shoot the ice maker (WR30X10061) and water valve without moving the refrigerator?

A:

This is the updated electronic ice maker. It's the replacement now for almost all the models. There are no test terminals for this ice maker other then to check voltage to it at the harness. You should get 120 volts between the brown and orange wires while keeping the harness connected. Be careful this is a hot test. If the led light is on though the voltage is ok. The led light will also flash an error code if one exists. If it blinks 1/2 second on and 1/2 second off it indicates a thermistor failure. The only parts that are replaceable on this ice maker are the feeler arm and fill cup, anything else requires a complete ice maker replacement. You can cycle the ice maker manually by turning the on/off switch off for 15 seconds. Then when you turn it back on move the feeler arm in and out 3 times. This will initiate a cycle. If there is voltage present but it won't cycle the ice maker will need to be replaced. If it does cycle but won't fill then you will need to get to the water valve. If you need more assistance you can resubmit your question with more details.

Q:

Why is the ice maker loud, hot and smells odd on my Kenmore refrigerator?

A:

According to the information and pictures that you submitted, this refrigerator should be model number 363.9534750. Here is a link for your owner's manual: Owner's Manual

If I understand your symptoms correctly, it is likely that you have a stuck switch on the dispenser. This is not a failure that you will be able to diagnose and repair yourself. I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair this type of problem in your model of refrigerator.
