Thanks for contacting ManageMyLife.com. I understand how frustrating it is having trouble with the ice maker in the freezer. We are here to help. Joseph did provide you with a good link on this problem. The only way to know if you need a ice maker or water valve is to perform a few tests. They are as follows:

  1. Is the freezer cold enough? If the freezer is not 15 degrees or lower the ice maker will not cycle. Therefore, you need to place a thermometer in the freezer for 1 hour. It takes that long to get a good accurate reading on the thermometer.
  2. Is the fill tube to the ice maker frozen. That will stop the water from entering the ice maker. Put your hand on the water tube a squeeze it. If it feel crunchy, heat it up with a hot rag or heat gun to thaw the line. Next, wait 3 hours for the ice maker to cycle, and fill with water. If no change, proceed to step 3.
  3. Does the ice maker cycle? If it does not cycle replace the ice maker. The image below will help you test the valve with a multimeter. I hope this helps.
