Thank you for your question. I'm sorry you are having this problem with the refrigerator freezer. If the freezer works ok for awhile and then quits freezing for awhile, it would lead to a sealed system problem. Now, also check to see if the fan stops running or if there is a thick frost accumulation on the back wall in the freezer. If these checks are ok and if the unit seems to run all the time, it would further lead to the sealed system. A technician would need to make this type of check and repair. This type of repair is expensive and would probably not be economical on this older unit. I hope this will help you. If you would like more assistance, reply to this thread and I will be glad to assist you further.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services.

Q:

Can I replace the freon that seeped out?

A:

To check the system and add freon, if necessary, will require a certified technician. Refrigerator systems are sealed and a technician will have the proper equipment to tap into it and then measure the freon, to determine, if some needs to be added or if there is a different problem. Refrigeration systems are very delicate and if not treated properly, can damage the compressor. I'm listing a site you can check to have a technician come out to check it. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services . If you need more assistance, please resubmit your question, with additional details.
