Question and Answers

Q:

Why won't the refrigerator door close?

A:

It sounds like the bottom of the door where it fits on the door hinge could be reamed out or the bushing is worn. By this I mean the hole in the bottom of the door that fits on the hinge pin is too large. This can cause the door to fit loose and can wobble and drop. Usually this can be seen by looking at the bottom of the door, where it fits on the hinge. If you are still not sure, can't tell by looking at it and moving the door, then the door will have to be removed, so you can actually see the hole and bushing. To remove the refrigerator door, the freezer door will have to be removed first. Before removing the doors, be sure to disconnect the power from the unit and empty the shelves on both doors. To remove the freezer door, take the top hinge loose and the door will simply lift up and off. Remove the middle hinge now and you can lift the refrigerator door off the bottom hinge. If the bushing # WR02X10111 is worn it will need to be replaced. If the hole is worn (reamed) or rusted the door # WR78X8742 will need to be replaced. Both of these parts are available at Sears PartsDirect .
