Question and Answers

Q:

Do I need to buy a dispenser?

A:

The crusher assembly has a gate (# 328) that has to open, in order to get cubed ice. When this gate opens, it allows the cubes to drop, before they go through the crusher. There is a solenoid (# 378) that connects with an arm (# 329) that opens and closes this gate. If the solenoid fails or doesn't receive any voltage, it won't activate the arm and the gate will not open. You can pull the ice bucket out to see the solenoid. With the freezer door open, press in on the freezer light switch and activate the dispenser lever. Watch the solenoid to see if it moves or hums. If it doesn't move but you can hear it humming, the solenoid assembly # WR62X58 will need to be replaced. If nothing happens, it could be a problem with the dispenser control board. One other check you can make will be at the top freezer door hinge. First disconnect power to the unit. Now pop the cover off of the hinge and under it will be some wires and a connector. Check the wires for a loose or broken wire. If the wires are ok, then some voltage checks will need to be made. The 2 most common problems are the solenoid and dispenser control board. A technician may be needed to make these checks. I'm listing a site you can check to have a technician out. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
