Question and Answers

Q:

Why is the water dispenser on refrigerator not shutting off and has a heavy continuous drip after use?

A:

Core Issue: Why is the water dispenser on refrigerator not shutting off and has a heavy continuous drip after use?

Resolution: The first thing to check is the water pressure to your home. Water pressure (100 – 120 PSI and above) can cause refrigerator water valve not to seat properly making the water dispenser drip and may even flood.

  • The water supply line attaches to your refrigerator at a solenoid valve (water valve). The valve has two solenoid coils, one for the icemaker and one for the water dispenser. When the water does not turn off completely at the dispenser it is because the water dispenser section of the solenoid valve has failed. This part will need replacement.

Note: General resolution for problem is based on information submitted with question. If problem persist, contact a service technician to Sears Repair Department 1-800-469-4663.

That is not the problem. The problem is not where the water is connected to the refrigator. It is either a spring or solenoid that pushes the lever you place your glass against when you want either water or ice. Once pressed in, it will not spring back shut when you take the glass away. It does not drip - the water keeps running full stream or dumping ice until you reach in and physically pull the lever back out. I had to rip out the rubber cover to access the lever so it wouldn't flood my kitchen. If you could provide me with a drawing showing the parts, I can figure it out from there. The drawings on the Sears parts site are not complete and useless to fix this problem.

Q:

Why won't the water dispenser on my Kenmore refrigerator model 363.58067892 shut off properly?

A:

According to your symptoms, this type of problem is normally caused by a failed water valve. The water valve will normally shut when voltage is removed from the circuit after the actuator pad is released. Since the water continued to flow, the valve is apparently stuck open and continues to allow water to flow through the dispenser. It is likely that the water valve assembly (part number WR57X10012) will need to be replaced to fix this failure.

You can order this part from the Sears PartsDirect website.

If you attempt to replace this part yourself, be sure that you unplug the refrigerator before accessing internal components. Test the water fittings for leaks after installing the new valve.

If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details.
