From the description listed, this will be a defrost problem. If it does not defrost, first the refrigerator will stop cooling and eventually the freezer will get warmer also. The most common defrost problem is a defective timer. To check the timer (# 257 in picture) you can manually turn the timer knob slowly until it clicks and the unit stops running. After a few minutes open the freezer and listen for some hissing and popping. This will be the ice melting on the heating elements and indicates the timer is not advancing. The timer # WR9X489 in this case, will need to be replaced. If nothing happens when you advance the timer, some voltage and resistance checks will need to be made. Unless you feel confident in your repair skills, I recommend having a technician make these checks. I'm listing a site you can access, to have a tech come out. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

The defrost timer is located by the light bulb in the refrigerator section. Remove the lamp cover & use a flat blade screwdriver to manually advance the defrost timer clockwise until the refrigerator cuts off. Remove the rear freezer panel to inspect the defrost heater. If the defrost heater glass tube is broken you will need to replace the heater/harness & defrost thermostat assembly part number WR51X10031. The timer part number WR9X489 should advance automatically after repairing & restoring power (may take up to 30 minutes). You can turn the unit off for a few days with the doors open to defrost or you can use a hair dryer to carefully defrost the freezer coils. Please see the images provided below for locations & more information.

SAFETY NOTICE: Be sure to disconnect power to the appliance before performing any repairs. If you are not comfortable with doing any voltage checks that might be recommended, please contact your local service provider for repairs. Be aware that there could be sharp edges inside the appliance that could cause cuts or other injuries to yourself or others.
