Question and Answers

Q:

How do I clean my refrigerator's condensing coils?

A:

The condenser coils only need to be cleaned when they are very dirty (stopped up). The amount of time this takes will vary, depending on the environment. In some cases, the coils may need cleaning regularly and in other cases, they may not need much cleaning at all. If the coils need cleaning, you can clean them from the front of the unit or the rear. First disconnect power to the unit. Now remove the bottom (front) grill and you will be able to see the condenser coils, up under the cabinet. Use a vacuum cleaner and small extension to clean the coils. To clean them from the rear, remove the back cover panel and you will see the compressor and the coils right behind it. Again you can use a vacuum cleaner and extension to clean the coils. If you need more assistance, you can resubmit your question with more details.
