Question and Answers

Q:

Kenmore dishwasher

A:

That's a good description on giving us an idea of what you have. First, let me briefly mention, that if there's about 1" of clear water left behind, that is considered normal and keeps the seals from dry rotting. Any other condition, would be considered outside the field of being normal. I've included a link below that will give you a general overview of what might be going on. You will be receiving an expert response from us in the near future. Have a nice morning and I hope this helps you.

I know that it can be very frustrating to have issues with your dishwasher. However, without the model number I can only provide some general information on this. If the drain pump will not run, you could have the following problems:

  • Blown TCO (Thermal Cut-off) fuse
  • Bad door switch
  • Wiring failure between components

The timer can be the problem if this is an older model. It is operated by a motor that can go out. I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair this type of problem. Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the dishwasher. If the dishwasher is not cleaning well I recommend checking the holes in the spray arms first. Over time, the hole can get plugged. If you find that any of the holes are plugged you can clear it out with a toothpick. After all the holes are clear, start the dishwasher. After it stops filling and is washing open the door to check the water level. The first image shows how to check the water level. If the water level is low, I recommend checking the water supply to the water valve. If the supply is ok, I recommend replacing the water valve.

If the water level is fine, check the temperature of the water to the dishwasher. It should be at least 120 degrees. If the temp is to low you can select a hi temp wash or adjust the water heater.

If the water temperature is fine, I recommend cleaning the pump inlet. I have posted an image below showing how to access the pump inlet. After cleaning this area, check the operation.

I hope this is helpful. Please feel free to reply below with more details.
