I know that it can be very frustrating to have issues with your dishwasher. When the door won't stay shut I suspect the problem is with the spring holding tension on the timer lever.

The image below may help you with this problem.

Sometimes the spring did not break but the plastic post the spring attaches to breaks. If the post is broken and you can find the spring then one thing to try is to screw a small screw into the post and attach the spring to it. If you need further assistance, please reply to this thread. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

The lights are on which is good and indicates the voltage is most likely okay.

My suspicion is the motor shaft has seized up possibly due to the time and weather.

I'd suggest you start by removing the lower access panel and give a listen to the motor when it tries to run. If it hums then most likely the shaft is stuck.

There is no easy access to the motor shaft. The motor assembly would have to be removed to access and try to turn the shaft.

First listen for the motor to hum. If it hums then try to turn the shaft.

If it makes no noise at all then the motor can be bad and the problem is with the power to the motor.

Give a listen and reply with any additional details for further assistance.

While you are waiting for an expert answer, I did manage to find a link that describes a similar problem to the one that you are having. I hope my link is useful.

The dishwasher has a one circulation motor so if the dishwasher is washing the motor is okay.

The drain system failure might be with the drain solenoid. When the drain pump is suppose to run then the timer puts voltage to the solenoid.

There is one trick to try. With the dishwasher not running you can practice pushing down on the solenoid. Push it down and when you release it the spring should bring it back up. When you push it down while the motor is running it should start to drain. Be careful doing this but it is a quick test. If the dishwasher drains with the solenoid pushed down then the problem will most likely be with the solenoid.

If the water doesn't drain out with the solenoid push down then there is another problem. There is a blockage or the piston and nut is stuck open the water is draining back into tub.

Let me know with a reply what happens when the solenoid is held down for further assistance.
