Question and Answers

Q:

How do I replace the timer shaft for my Kenmore Dishwasher?

A:

I know how important it is to have a good working dishwasher in the home so that you can keep your dishes nice and clean. While you are waiting for your expert answer, I did manage to find a link in where you can enter your appliance model number and a parts list diagram will pop up. I am also adding two more links that will guide you with your project. I hope my links are useful.

From the description you give I suspect the end of the timer knob broke off inside the timer.

This will most likely mean you will need to replace the timer and the knob. There is also a timer cam that fits on the timer.

The images below may be of help you you.

Both the timer WD21X10015 and timer knob WD09X10004 are available from the following link: Sears PartsDirect .

I hope this helps. You can reply with any additional details or questions for further assistance.

I'm not actually sure which part is broken. When the knob came off, inside was a red disk with a hollow white cylinder slit through the middle poking out. One half of the cylinder broke off. Other than that, nothing seems to be broken. We have been using plyers to turn the remaining half to make the dishwasher start. When I opened up the dishwasher, the white cylinder seemed to run through the red disk and to the back of the timer. Is this white cylinder part of the knob or the timer? Its not clear from the diagrams.

To tell you the truth from the description you give I believe the part broken is part of the knob. What would help is if you could reply with a picture of the knob and timer. I will be out of office on Thursday so my answer my be delayed. Thanks.
