Q:

Kenmore Gas Range model # 75990

A:

A non working Oven is not something any of us want to see. If you are technically handy, this is a good site to get instruction and fix some things yourself. If you do not feel confident doing your own repairs, an option is to visit Sears Home Services and use the scheduler. While you wait for the expert to review your model, you can check the bottom links for some possibilities. Hope this is of help.

Thank you for you question on the oven not getting to normal temperatures.

Before we get into any tear down, let’s try a few things to help with the troubleshooting.

Do you get any error codes?

Have you check to see if the broil with will work to get the oven to 500 degrees?

If it does then we know the oven temperature sensor is okay.

Does the oven element get red during the bake cycle?

If it does not please check the house circuit breaker for the range to make sure you are getting 240 volts to the range. (If the broil element gets red this is not the problem).

Please include the complete model number in your reply.(It will be behind the storage drawer on the model serial tag).

Please let me know what you have found and we can continue troubleshooting with that information.

Sam A.

No error codes. The broil works. The oven element gets red. The problem is intermittent. Any idea what the issue is? Model # 362.75990001

I am sorry that I did not see that it was a gas range at the beginning. You told me it was right at the beginning of your request. I guess I had electric ranges on the brain this morning. Now lets look at that the igniter as the problem on the range. Yes it will glow orange/red but if it is failing or getting weak it will not allow enough voltage through to open the gas valve properly. It is highly likely that the igniter needs to be replaced. It also could be the safety valve but it has a much lower failure rate. Since you probably do not have an amp probe meter to check the amp draw on the igniter it would be all most as easy just to change out the bake igniter. If you want to be sure, you could exchange it for the broil igniter because on this model they are the same part number. If you decide to do that, be very careful with them as they are delicate to ruff handling. You will need to take the oven racks out and remove the oven bottom by loosening the screws at the back of the oven bottom and lifting up the oven bottom from the back and then sliding it out from under the from lip of the oven liner. Once you have removed the oven bottom, you will need to remove the screws that hold the wings of the flame spreader so you can get to the igniter. Remove the retaining screws on the igniter mount on the burner tube and unplug the wire harness connector. Replace with the new or broil igniter and re-assemble the range. This way it will tell you for sure if the igniter is bad and you do not have to spend any money to find out. If it works then you can order a replacement for the broil burner. The part number for the igniter is : WB13K21 for about $82.00 and you can order it from:[Sears Parts Direct | www.searspartsdirect.com?sid=MMLxexpertxmerch] . I hope this information will help. Please let me know what you find out and we can continue troubleshooting if that does not solve the problem. Sam A.

A:

In reference to your Kenmore gas range, model number 362.75990001:

If the lock latch is preventing the door from closing securely, try starting a self cleaning cycle for about 1 minute & then pressing cancel. This will retract the door lock allowing the door to close securely.
