Question and Answers

My gas oven is not working, but the gas range does work. Based on the Kenmore name plate this is a Electric Ignition Model.

With the oven not working can be a huge inconvenience. I have done some research on the Manage My Life website and have located a link similar to your issue. While you are waiting for a detailed reply from an expert I have provided the link below. Hope this helps!

That name plate is correct. Your model of Kenmore range has an electric ignition system on that oven burner. The theory of operation for that ignition system in the oven is shown in the first image below. Here is a video that illustrates that ignition system operation.

The second image below shows how to access the igniter in your oven. Pull the oven bottom out and see if that igniter is glowing when you set the oven in a bake cycle. If the igniter is glowing then it is probably bad even though it is glowing. Replacing the igniter in that situation will probably fix your heating failure. You can order that igniter from this page: Igniter for Kenmore Range 362.75212101 . Be sure that you unplug the range and shut off the gas supply before accessing and replacing that component.

If that igniter is not glowing, then you could still have a bad igniter. You could also have a wiring failure, a bad thermostat or a failed safety gas valve.

If you need more help diagnosing and repairing this failure, reply with additional details.

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician examine and repair this problem, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services .
