That buzzing sound is probably originating from a relay or transformer on the control board in the console. The components seem to be working properly at this time according to your details.

I recommend that you check the details of your home-owner's warranty. If you are able to have a service technician examine the range without a charge then it would probably be worth it schedule that service. The technician should be able to determine the source of the noise if the range is buzzing during the visit. If the technician decides to replace parts and is able to repair the problem, then you may avoid any future repair expense using that warranty.

I hope that this information helps. If you need further assistance, let us know.

Thanks for the ideas. I think the sound is coming from much lower than the console/control board, but I won't really know for sure until it happens again. An opinion (by phone) from a local appliance repair shop is that the gas pressure regulator is starting to go, but they assure me it is not a safety concern, just annoying. The home warranty will not apply unless the noise occurs for the servicing tech, so I'm out of luck with that. Thanks for your assistance - will see where I hear it next time the noise occurs.
