When you light your gas oven and the appliance’s gas valve opens, the valve often produces a single, small bang, pop or snap. This indicates normal, functional oven operation

Q:

broiler doesnt light 36273271691 Kenmore Gas range

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I am sorry to hear that the broiler is not working on the gas range. I know how frustrating that is to have happen.

If the igniter for broiler is not coming on, or not glowing to the proper Ohms rating, the valve will not release the gas to cause ignition. It’s very likely the broil igniter is not working, which is causing the issue.

That igniter part will normally come with instructions and ceramic (porcelain) wire nuts to connect the wires. Once you undo the two mounting screws, I would recommend replacing one wire at a time so they don't get mixed up. Just undo the wire nut, and twist the wire ends from the new igniter wire and the connector wire together and put a new wire nut on. Do the same thing to the other wire and re-secure the igniter’s mounting screws to the mounting bracket. It's a pretty straight forward install to perform. Just be cautious when handling the new igniter that you don't touch the ceramic portion with your skin, the oil will cause the igniter to fail prematurely.
