Question and Answers

Q:

Oven Doesn't Always Light

A:

Thank you for your question. I'm sorry you are having this problem with the oven and I can understand your concern. This could be a problem with the thermostat, the igniter or the safety valve. The most likely problem will be with the thermostat. First, try setting the thermostat to a higher temperature and see if the burner comes back on. If it does, it would lead to the thermostat # WB20K10023. If it still won't come back on, check to see if the igniter is glowing. If the igniter does not glow, it could still be a defective thermostat. In this case, disconnect the power and now remove the two wires from the thermostat and connect them together. Reconnect the power and if the burner comes on, the thermostat will need to be replaced. If the igniter is glowing but the burner does not come on, it would most likely be a weak igniter # WB13K21. The igniter must pull 3 amps or the valve will not open. This would need to be checked with an amp probe to determine for sure that the igniter is weak or if the safety valve has failed. If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services. I hope this will help you. If you would like more assistance, reply to this thread and I will be glad to assist you further.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

When the oven thermostat is turned to the desired temperature, the thermostat must close a set of contacts in order to complete the path of voltage to the glow bar oven igniter.

If you happen to have flipped the lever to the off position on the pressure regulator, the bake igniter will glow but the bake burner will not ignite because the gas is shut off to the oven safety valve.  Check and see if the lever is flipped to the OFF position. See image below

Open the broiler and turn on the oven and watch to see if the glow bar igniter will glow of not. If the igniter is not glowing, then it could have faulty oven thermostat, oven safety valve or a broken glow bar igniter.
