Q:

kenmore free standing gas oven

A:

When half the oven does not work, it does limit cooking choices. I did some checking and located a similar question that may help while you wait for the expert review and response for this model. I attached the link below. If you do decide you would prefer to have a technician help with the diagnosis and repair, I also added the link to Sears Home Services. I hope this information is helpful.

You could have a bad igniter, a failed oven safety gas valve or a problem with the control board in the console that would cause this failure. I recommend that you unplug the range and check the continuity through the igniter and that safety gas valve. I provided a theory of operation for the glow bar ignition system that is installed on many Kenmore gas ranges. This information may help you check that system. If the igniter and the gas valve are both okay, then you could have a wiring failure in that circuit or a relay failure on that control board.

This general information may help you with that oven heating failure. If you need more specific repair assistance, reply with additional details and the full model number of your Kenmore range.

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this oven failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services .

Hello Renee. I provided a link for a video below that further explains that ignition process for the oven burner in your range. If that igniter is glowing but the burner will not light, then you will probably need to replace that igniter (part WB2X9154), Here is a direct link for that part Igniter for Kenmore Range 362.71828892 . Be sure that you UNPLUG the range and shut off the gas supply before accessing and replacing internal components. That igniter is a slightly different style (round) than the one described in that video and the answer provided in the previous posts on this thread. Your round carborundum igniter will only allow about 2.5 to 3 amps of current flow when operating properly. If the igniter is not glowing at all, then you could have a bad thermostat, a failed igniter, a bad safety gas valve or a wiring failure in that circuit. These tips may help you resolve that ignition problem in your oven. If you need more help, reply with additional details.

Q:

Why doesn't top right burner light?

A:

Look at the ignitor while it is clicking. It should be arcing up to the burner cap. If it is arcing up the burner probably just needs cleaning. If it is arcing someplace else the ignitor is probably cracked and should be replaced.
