found the answer- thanks everyone. talked to the help online, and as we were finishing our discussion without a real answer, after hanging up i noticed that the shaft extended below the armature by 1/2 inch. i held it with a pair of pliers, and tried to turn the impellar at the other end- it turned !. ends up - the impeller self threads onto the shaft. It appears that the impeller is to be driven off/on the motor shaft. If it’s the original impeller, I’m sure it’s stuck to the shaft and may have to be broken to be removed. The heat generated by the motor running may possibly make it a little easier to remove so you may want to consider running the unit for about 10 minutes then trying to remove it.
