Instructions for replacing head assembly 358796290 Craftsman Weed wacker

Q:

Won't run/idle in the run position 358796290 Craftsman Weed wacker

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I am sorry to hear of the issue you're having with the trimmer. I know how frustrating that is.

With the unit running on half-choke but dying out when put to run, that usually indicates there is an internal blockage within the carburetor. There could be a blockage within one of the passageways that is restricting fuel flow when under load. I would take the carburetor off and do a very thorough cleaning, and shoot all the passageways with carb cleaning. Sometimes an initial carb cleaning/rebuild isn't enough and a secondary cleaning is needed. When you reassembled the unit, there may have been varnish left behind that dislodged and clogged a passageway. I would not recommend adjusting the idle/mixture screws.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.

Q:

how do i tie the rope on a recoil 25cc Craftsman weedwacker model 358.796290 and get the coil spring back in place is there a picture you can send me

A:

To wind the spring on the starter pulley wear gloves and eye protection.

The spring has like a hook in one end that will fit over a tang inside the pulley. Attach that end on the tang. Carefully wind the spring keeping the spring inside the pulley. The other end of the spring has a bend that will attach to a knob on the fan housing. Attach that end and begin winding the rope onto the pulley by rotating the pulley. This will load the spring so it will retract. You will need to rotate the pulley to load the spring one turn before installing the rope.

The pulley has a groove the end of the rope goes in to hold it. Insert the rope into the groove before winding it on the pulley.
