Q:

How do I replace the fuel pick up (530095646), inside the gas tank on my Sears trimmer model 358795100? The hole in the fuel tank is offset.

A:

Take a 6-12 inch piece of clean wire, such as coat hanger wire, and bend a hook in the end. Make the hook about 1/2 inch long and around 1/4 inch wide at the opening.

Shape the wire so it will go into the tank and catch the fuel line with the fuel pick up on it. This tubing has 2-3 inches of slack in it so the fuel pick up can fall into the lowest part of the tank as you rotate the engine into different positions.

There will be enough slack for you to pull the fuel pick up out of the opening the gas cap screws on.

Remove and replace the fuel pick up outside the fuel tank and drop the new fuel pick up inside the gas tank. The fuel pick up will find it's own position.

A:

Hello Bob,

I would like to assist you with your question. I have attached a diagram at the end of this reply that shows the flow of fuel in your chainsaw. Basically, the fuel bulb has a one way valve and pressing the bulb causes the fuel to be pulled up through the filter, then through the carburetor, and back into the tank.

Please let me know if you would like any further assistance.
