Q:

Chainsaw will not keep chain on the bar

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem keeping the chain tight on your chainsaw. If you have inspected all the parts of the saw and all look fine you could change the saw back to an old style. Some customers change the cover to convert the saw back to older style that has the two hold down nuts. If this is something you would like to do please click here  to be taken to a question that contains the information on how to convert it.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you for using Manage my life. Mark

I don't completely understand your answer. It came from the factory with the tool-free tensioner. So how would I change it back to the old style? All of the factory parts are still on it other than the chain.

Richard, We have found that some customers have difficulties keeping the chain tight on this style saw. They are doing everything correctly and the chain still comes loose. I feel the problem is the knob is not tight enough but they claim they cannot get it any tighter. When this happens, one options it to change from the tool less set up to the tooled set up which the older chainsaws have. They use two hex nuts to secure the cover and hold the bar tight. If you do not want to change the saw over to the old style, you can try replacing the knob assembly kit. The problem could be the threads in the knob are not holding the way they should. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

So how does Sears correct this issue? Can I bring the saw to a Sears repair center for them to correct?

A:

Richard, You can bring the saw to any one of our drop off locations and they will diagnose and replace the parts causing the problem with the saw but they will not change the chain cover over to the older style. The reason is we can only install the original parts or factory authorized replacement parts. The option I mentioned above is one way for you to cure the problem. If you would like to keep the saw all original I recommend taking it to one of our drop off locations. The link below will show you the closest location to you. Thank you for using Manage my life.

Your link discusses a saw that has a similar issue. The parts that are referenced will not interchange with my model. Do you have the numbers for the parts that would be correct for my model?

Richard, The old style cover will look a little different because it is secured with the two hex nuts. I posted an image below showing the two parts. You can see that both of the covers contain the chain brake assembly and the handles. Just click on the image to enlarge it. Remember if you change the saw over to the old style cover, you need to order the two nuts listed also.

The substitution for that part is 545139902. I bought one. This part has the screw type chain tensioner. This type of tensioner does not work with the bar for the chainsaw with the tool free tensioner. The bar has a raised knob to permit the device to catch it and apply tenion to it. This bar cannot be reversed as the knob won't sit in the plate for the bar studs. The bar studs are not long enough. Please address these issues.
