Q:

snowblower elect starter 536887996 Craftsman Snowthrower, gas

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

Based upon snow thrower 536.887996, I see the engine being used is a Tecumseh 143.059013. Based upon the engine model, the electric starter is offered as a kit. The replacement part number for the electric start is 33-738.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.

I do believe the kit you found with part number 33-738 should work for your engine. Be advised that it is an aftermarket replacement starter assembly as the engine manufacturer (Tecumseh) has gone out of business.

Another something that's worth mentioning is that if you can find a local starter repair/rebuild shop, they can very likely fix the switch on your current starter assembly. Places that rebuild automobile starters/alternators can typically do this type of repair for a very reasonable price.

@Robert: There is no battery on this snowthrower with this type of starter system. It's a 110VAC type starter system.

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the electric starter. I recommend first checking the cord for the starter. To check the cord plugs a lamp into the cord and check the operation. If the lamp works, the problem is with the starter. This model starter is non-repairable. To cure the problem you have to order the whole starter. The part number for the starter is 33-738 and can be ordered from our parts website: Sears Parts Direct .

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.
