It sounds like there might be a problem with the connection where the reed switch connects. On some models, the reed switch connects to a motor controller or power supply board. On some models the reed switch connects to the console.

Follow the reed switch wire and look for places it might be pinched or damaged. Check the connector for damage or loose terminals.

If you have more questions, reply on this thread and include the model of the treadmill. I will be glad to help.

dugantammy, I don't want to cause you to replace a motor controller and not repair the problem. Did the console indicate it was going into the calibration mode? The led on your motor controller should indicate where the problem is. You can test the motor with a 9 volt battery. Disconnect power to the treadmill and remove the motor leads from the A+ and A- terminals of the controller. Connect the battery negative terminal to A- and positive to A+. The motor should run slowly. If you have questions, reply and I will be glad to help.

Q:

What can I do about the letters rubbing off my Kenmore washer control panel?

A:

The solution would be to replace the console and not use any harsh chemicals to clean the console. The user’s manual instructs to use a diluted solution of bleach and water only if the console is stained. Do not use the diluted solution for everyday cleaning. I recommend warm water and a mild detergent to clean the face of the console only when needed and rinse well. Using certain types of cleaners will cause the letters to rub off or frequent cleaning will eventually cause the letters to rub off.

The replacement console is part # 134443000 for $33.64. I added the instructions in the image below on how to remove and replace the console. I also added a link to Sears Parts Direct with the console looked up for you. Click on "Panel, control console" to open link.
