Question and Answers

Q:

Toshiba 32" TV model#32A32 What can cause my TV to not turn on?

A:

Unfortunately this model does not help you pinpoint the defective circuit by the front LED. This is simply telling us something is not right. There are only a couple of troubleshooting steps a customer can do with this set.

You have already taken the first step of unplugging it and letting it sit to see if anything was hanging up the microprocessor in the set. You also stated that it clicks before going into shutdown. This tells us that the TV is recognizing that its being told to turn on. From here we would have to start making checks in the set to know what is stopping the TV from working. A defect in the vertical or horizontal circuit can have a parts cost of under 40 dollars but the labor charge would need to be added to that. If a new board altogether is needed then the price can climb to a couple hundred dollars with the labor charge.

Knowing what the TV did right before failing can help steer you in the right direction of what circuit failed. If the picture collapsed vertically to a white line in the center left to right we know that the vertical circuit failed. If there was a loud pop or bright spot in the middle then that could lead us to an arc in the HV. Knowing you get a click at power on has eliminated some of the common easy fixes like blowing a line fuse. You will more than likely need service on this set.
