Question and Answers

Q:

how do I remove the clutch assembly on my model #316791960 trimmer 316791960 Craftsman Trimmer

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for using SearsPartsDirect.com.
I am sorry you are having a problem removing the clutch. I wasn’t able to locate a diagram for removing the clutch that I can send to you; however, I have a method that has worked for me in the past I can share.
I suspect the problem is you cannot keep the engine from turning. If this is the case, you will need to remove the spark plug. Then fill the cylinder with soft rope. Make sure to leave enough sticking out so it can be removed later. Now when you turn the clutch the piston will stop and you can loosen the clutch.
If you do want to see a visual for guidance on removing the clutch, there are some great YouTube videos out there that you can watch to see how it's done. I would recommend taking a few minutes to browse through them before going further.
Hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.
